Cole Skadsem

Funeral Director

Cole was born in Cambridge, Minnesota, but was raised on the Iron Range. He graduated from Virginia High School in 2013, and attended Mesabi Range College in order to remain close to home and earn an associate’s degree. Cole went on to attend the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities, where he met his best friend and future wife, Laine Halverson, on orientation day. During his time as a Mortuary Science student, Cole worked as a night attendant for Evans-Nordby Funeral Home in Brooklyn Center and Osseo. Cole graduated in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mortuary Science; upon finishing clinical rotation work, he eagerly joined the O’Connell team along with Laine.

Cole’s ambition to become a funeral director was inspired by his cousin, Matt Hendrickson, who is also a director and owner of Berta’s Funeral Home. After observing Matt’s dedication and importance to the community, he quickly decided to follow Matt’s example in order to serve people in a dignified and professional manner. Cole considers himself blessed to facilitate each and every family he meets along their journey through grief and loss.

Outside of work, Cole can be found at a local gym with a basketball in his hands, or at home spending time with Laine. He is an avid Minnesota Twins & Timberwolves fan, and he proudly follows the Green Bay Packers to carry on the traditions of his late grandfather, Bill.
