Gabe Schauf
Funeral Director & Crematory Operator
Gabe was born and raised in Barron, Wisconsin to Robert and Karyn Schauf. He grew up on the family farm with his three brothers and just down the road from his grandparents and learned a great deal about work and life lessons from the farm lifestyle. Gabe was very active in many organizations growing up including: 4-H, student council, band, choir, hockey, church youth group, and many other activities. Always the performer, Gabe enjoyed (and still enjoys) playing in various bands, doing theater, performing magic, and public speaking. After graduating from Barron in 2000, Gabe attended the University of Minnesota, though he wasn’t sure what career path he wanted to follow. After getting some advice from good friend, James Ellison, Gabe applied and was accepted to the Mortuary Science Program.
Gabe’s college career was put on hold as his National Guard unit was called to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He served with Bravo Company 1-128 INF out of New Richmond / Rice Lake as a fire team leader, squad leader, truck commander, training NCO, and other positions while in Iraq.

After his tour of duty Gabe came home, graduated from the University of Minnesota Mortuary Science Program and found a job at the Thomson-Dougherty Funeral Home in Minneapolis. After working there for a year, Gabe found a home with the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – fulfilling his desire to “get back on the Wisconsin side of the river.” He currently lives in Hammond, Wisconsin, with his dog, Bentley.
Gabe is active with his church in Baldwin, as well as with coaching hockey for the Baldwin Hockey Association. He is a big Green Bay Packer fan, Minnesota Wild fan, and proud (and rowdy) supporter of Minnesota Gopher football and hockey. He also enjoys deer hunting, camping, golf, paintball and is trying to improve upon his cooking and grilling skills.
