John George Hoggatt, of Hudson, passed away on April 18, 2018 at the age of 53. He was born on March 31, 1965 to John and Gail (Waugh) Hoggatt in Oscoda, Michigan. John graduated from high school in New Ulm, Minnesota in 1983 and from UW-Madison in 1987 with a degree in Cartography. John welcomed his daughter Sara Ann into the world in 1989. In 1991, he met Sarah Beth Atkins, the love of his life, and they were married in Madison in 1994. John and Sarah relocated to Hudson in 1995 where they started their business, Archovations, Inc., specializing in exterior building products. He had a strong commitment to the community, both as a small business owner and as Hudson District 5 alderperson for the past 7 years including leadership roles on Public Safety, Public Works, and Urban Forestry committees as well as several others. This public service led to his running for mayor in a spirited campaign this spring.
First and foremost, John was a family man. He proudly served as the backbone to his family during his in-laws’ twilight years ending with tender, loving caregiving to each. John loved and advocated for the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, camper and bird watcher and spent any time he could find on the river with family and friends. John excelled in many sports including skiing, ping-pong, golf and tennis, and he was a lifelong fan of the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers. He loved all genres of music and was a member of his church’s choir. He truly took great pleasure in sharing and teaching his many hobbies to others. Above all, John embodied compassion, generosity, and living life to the fullest. He will be forever missed.
John is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sarah Beth Atkins Hoggatt; daughter, Sara (Daniel) Parrish; grandson, Wyatt Parrish; son, Ben Faith; mother, Gail Hoggatt; sister, Kim (Gary) Krumwiede; brother, Mark (Patty) Hoggatt; nieces and nephews, Emily and Katherine Hoggatt and Camille (Millie) and Austin Krumwiede; as well as countless other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Hoggatt; and parents-in-law, Robert D. Atkins and Phyllis J. (Nelson) Atkins.
