Dennis “Denny” Darnold, age 65 of Hudson, died unexpectedly at Hudson Hospital on November 18, 2018.
Denny was born on April 30, 1953 in Creston, Iowa to Bernard and Betty (Anderson) Darnold. He graduated from Villisca High School, with the class of 1971. Denny furthered his education at Iowa State University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture. He worked for the City of Hudson as a Community Development Director for 31 years until his retirement in May of 2017. On October 2, 1982, Denny was united in marriage to Jeanne Haas at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barron, WI. Denny and Jeanne were blessed with 3 wonderful children; Sarah, Matt, and Megan.
Denny was well known for his dedication and determination to make Hudson a better community. He enjoyed coaching and helping with his children’s sports teams. Denny was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St Patrick’s Church. He liked fishing with his father in law and everything golf. But his favorite and most important role was being a Papa. He loved doing yard work and spending time teaching his grandson Easton to golf. He has now been reunited with his youngest grandson, Brecken, who passed away just four months ago. Denny is already missed greatly and will remain in our hearts forever.
Denny is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Sarah (Daryl) Kariniemi, Matt Darnold, and Megan (Tony) Green; grandson, Easton Kariniemi; siblings, Doug (LeAnna) Darnold and Tom (Suzanne) Darnold; and father-in-law, James Haas as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brecken Kariniemi; brother, Tim Darnold; parents, Bernard and Betty Darnold; and mother-in-law, Elaine Haas.
Mass of Christian Burial for Denny will be at 11AM on Monday, November 26, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson, WI. Visitation will be from 3-6PM on Sunday, November 25 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, as well as one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date. Services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson, WI. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the family.
