Dennis “Denny” Darnold, age 65 of Hudson, died unexpectedly at Hudson Hospital on November 18, 2018.

Denny was born on April 30, 1953 in Creston, Iowa to Bernard and Betty (Anderson) Darnold. He graduated from Villisca High School, with the class of 1971. Denny furthered his education at Iowa State University, earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture. He worked for the City of Hudson as a Community Development Director for 31 years until his retirement in May of 2017. On October 2, 1982, Denny was united in marriage to Jeanne Haas at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Barron, WI. Denny and Jeanne were blessed with 3 wonderful children; Sarah, Matt, and Megan.

Denny was well known for his dedication and determination to make Hudson a better community. He enjoyed coaching and helping with his children’s sports teams. Denny was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St Patrick’s Church. He liked fishing with his father in law and everything golf. But his favorite and most important role was being a Papa. He loved doing yard work and spending time teaching his grandson Easton to golf. He has now been reunited with his youngest grandson, Brecken, who passed away just four months ago. Denny is already missed greatly and will remain in our hearts forever.

Denny is survived by his wife, Jeanne; children, Sarah (Daryl) Kariniemi, Matt Darnold, and Megan (Tony) Green; grandson, Easton Kariniemi; siblings, Doug (LeAnna) Darnold and Tom (Suzanne) Darnold; and father-in-law, James Haas as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brecken Kariniemi; brother, Tim Darnold; parents, Bernard and Betty Darnold; and mother-in-law, Elaine Haas.

Mass of Christian Burial for Denny will be at 11AM on Monday, November 26, 2018 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1500 Vine St., Hudson, WI. Visitation will be from 3-6PM on Sunday, November 25 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, as well as one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at a later date. Dennis "Denny" Darnold's Tribute Wall

Tributes (3):

  1. Denny was my co-worker for the city of Hudson and my neighbor. Denny loved mowing his lawn and keeping the walk and driveway clean of snow. I loved when He came over and did my driveway too. He never spoke a harsh word and he loved his family. I am shocked that he has been taken from his family here but he is united now with Brekken. Denny will be missed.

  2. I’m a classmate of Denny’s. He was such a part of my life. Denny was best man in my wedding. He was at every event or fun time at ISU. He and I were both members of First Presbyterian Church in Villisca, IA. Denny was kind, gentle, and so special to our entire class. My ex-husband and I attended Denny and Jeanne’s wedding in Rice Lake. I’m sad that I can’t get to the funeral. Denny made a difference to so many people. No greater things could be said of someone. My heart is heavy. My condolences to Jeanne and the family. Denny was loved by many. May God be with the entire family. It is my prayer that you will feel the collective hug of the Hudson community and those that are extended from Southwest Iowa. Love and blessings to all of you.

  3. Denny was a good man the kind of person every town needs. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was always there to give advice and help Hudson be a wonderful place to live. He was kind to all he had contact with as the City Planner and as a citizen of Hudson. He will be missed by all who knew him and mostly by his wonderful family.
