William C. Walton, 94, of Hudson, passed away on February 2, 2019. Bill served in the U.S. Army as a forward observer for General George Patton’s artillery during World War II. He was a world renowned ground water hydrologist and author of many groundwater textbooks and articles. He was employed by the U.S. Geological Survey, University of Illinois, and University of Minnesota. He served as the Director of the Upper Mississippi Water Basin Commission and completed consulting projects throughout the world.

Preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Irene Walton; sister, Jane (Roy) Gilbert and wife, Ellen Walton. Survived by his daughters Cynthia (Tom) Solberg and Louise (Mark Kramer) Walton; granddaughters Alyse (Kevin) Stofer, Heidi (Andrew) Brody, and Kate Kramer; and great grandchildren Lukas & Krya Stofer, Will & Anna DeHoogh and Austin Brody.

A private family memorial service will be held in remembrance.

  1. My Father, Howard Brown,was with Bill at WinterGreen and on to Pine Ridge .
    Bill was such of a calming force wherever he was.
    He and my Dad sat together for meals at Pine Ridge and again,Bill just a delight to be around. What an interesting and full
    Life he had. I will miss his presence. A loss for sure.
