Veterans

Proud to serve Veterans and their families.

The O’Connell Family Funeral Home is proud to serve all Veterans and Military Personnel and their families. We realize the sacrifices that the members of our military have made for us to make our country what it is, and we want to help honor them with all the respect, dignity, and recognition that they deserve.

If desired, we at O’Connells offer personalized caskets, vaults, urns and many other custom services that honor the military. We can also coordinate military honors with rifle volley, presentation of our American Flag and color guard, and the playing of Taps.

All veterans are eligible for monuments and burial flags at no cost. Depending on the benefits they were receiving prior to the passing, some are also eligible for burial benefits. We work diligently with our local veteran’s office to assure that the veteran, and their family, receives any and all benefits. Contact the O’Connell’s to arrange these benefits or raise any questions you may have. Here is a list of some of the benefits that may be available from the Veterans Administration.

Burial Flags

An American Flag is provided at no charge for placement on the casket (either draped or folded) or next to the cremated remains of eligible veterans who have served honorably in the Armed Forces. After burial, this flag is presented to the next-of-kin.

Retired American Flags

Many people are unaware of proper flag etiquette or where or how flags can be properly disposed of. At O’Connell’s, we accept old, used, and tattered United States Flags, which we drape over the alternative container a veteran is cremated in. We are proud to be able to pay tribute to our flag and great veterans who sacrifice their lives for us.

Burial in National Cemeteries

Grave space in a national cemetery is offered to qualified veterans. This benefit includes all cemetery services, in addition to a grave marker. In some cases, grave spaces may also be offered to an eligible veteran’s spouse and certain other dependents.

Memorial plots in national cemeteries are also made available to eligible members of the Armed Forces who were missing in action or otherwise not able to be buried. This plot, suitably marked, is set aside to honor the missing veteran’s memory. To learn more click here

Grave Markers

Grave markers are issued to mark the graves of qualified veterans. This is automatically provided to all veterans buried in national cemeteries.

The staff of O’Connell’s will be more than happy to assist families in applying for government markers that will be placed in a private cemetery.

Military Honors

We work closely with local VFW, Legion, and Military Honor squads to provide our deceased military personnel with full military honors. Military honors can be performed at a cemetery, church, funeral home, or park, wherever the family desires.

Trusted by thousands of families.
