Veterans Administration Benefits
Your Funeral Professional has considerable experience in advising families about the benefits available under the Veterans Administration. These allowances will be paid upon application to all who are qualified to receive them. As these benefits are subject to governmental change, you will want to check the current provisions.
Burial Flags
An American flag is provided for placement on the casket of eligible veterans who have served in the Armed Forces. Your Funeral Professional will be able to tell you the qualifications and knows the proper procedure for obtaining one. After burial, this flag is presented to the next-of-kin.
Burial in National Cemeteries Grave space in a national cemetery is offered to qualified veterans. This benefit includes all cemetery services, in addition to a grave marker. Since a few of the national cemeteries are very limited as to available space, and the most recent regulations concerning the assignment of spaces may be rather complex, you should ask your Funeral Professional to check with the appropriate government office before making any arrangements. In some cases, grave spaces may also be offered to an eligible veteran's spouse and certain other dependents.
Memorial plots in national cemeteries are made available to eligible members of the Armed Forces who were missing in action or otherwise not able to be buried. This plot, suitably marked, is set aside to honor the missing veteran's memory.
Grave Markers
Grave markers are issued to mark the graves of qualified veterans when the proper application is made by the next-of-kin. This is automatically provided all veterans who are buried in national cemeteries. Your Funeral Professional has the appropriate form to apply for this and other veterans benefits.
Before you make application, make sure that this type of stone or bronze marker will not only meet the specifications of the cemetery, but will be sufficient to satisfy you and other members of the family If you order this stone or bronze marker it will be delivered without expense, but you will be responsible for having it installed at the grave.
