Ada Kathlyn, “Kay” Sandeen, age 96 of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Hudson, WI, died on November 29, 2017. Born July 27, 1921 in Alma, AR to parents Walter and Delia (Cason) Byars. Kay was a graduate of Ward Belmont in Nashville, TN and completed her BA in Art History at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. On December 5, 1943, Kay would be united in marriage to O. Robert Sandeen. Their union in marriage would be blessed with two daughters. Her husband preceded her in death in March 1994.
In June 1954, Kay and Bob moved to Hudson at which time they purchased what is currently the Sandeen Agency, an independent insurance agency. Kay was an astute businesswoman and was well respected for her keen knowledge and professionalism in the insurance industry until she retired in 1994.
Kay was blessed with a full life and many interests. She cared and shared her bountiful vegetable and flower gardens. She will be remembered as the ultimate hostess and her many wonderful dinners. She was a Master bridge player which she enjoyed until the last few months of her life. She was active in her community as a member of the Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce, the Hudson Women’s Club, the Hudson Hospital Auxiliary, the Hudson Garden Club, and the Ft. Myers Pi Beta Phi Alumnae. She enjoyed her volunteer work at the Phipps Center for the Arts. Her life was enriched by her children and grandchildren. Kay leaves a legacy of love, caring and friendship and southern charm for her family, friends and community.
Kay is survived by her children; Lyn Sandeen and Meme (John) Fehr; grandchildren, John (Katy Kawauchi) Fehr, Karl Fehr, and Graeme Fehr; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, O.Robert Sandeen; her parents; and her sister, Mary Alice (Fred) Limberg.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Hudson, WI, followed by a Memorial Service for Ada beginning at 3:00. Memorials honoring Kay may be directed to The Phipps Center for the Arts or the First Presbyterian Church, Hudson, WI. Services and arrangements have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Homes of Hudson, WI.
