Amy Jo (Magle) Hanson, age 55, of Owatonna and formerly of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at her residence. Amy Jo was born on September 2, 1970, in Stillwater, Minnesota, the daughter of Terry and Mary Kay Magle. She was raised in Monticello, Minnesota, before the family moved to Hudson, Wisconsin, where they made their home. Amy Jo attended Willow River Elementary School and graduated from Hudson High School with the Class of 1988. She continued her education at 916 Vocational School in Mahtomedi, where she received her training as a legal secretary.
In 1989, Amy Jo married Vincent Munson, a union that would later dissolve. During her marriage to Vince, she welcomed her children — Brendan, Samantha, and Joseph, into the world.
In 2007, Amy Jo welcomed her youngest child, Mya, into the world with Norman Jarrett.
Amy Jo built a long career in government, working for both Ramsey County and the State of Minnesota. Over the years, she contributed her skills to programs including MNSure and Child Support, and she was most recently employed as an Appeals Specialist.
In 2015, she found love again and married Lance Hanson in a ceremony at their home in Hudson. Most recently, the couple settled into a charming 100-year-old home in Owatonna — a place full of character, comfort, and peace that Amy Jo deeply loved.
There wasn’t an inch of that home that didn’t reflect her essence and creativity through her décor, which wasn’t easy to maintain with her multiple pets and “teenager” cats. Amy Jo also took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed crafting, thrifting, baking and hiking at Willow River State Park. Amy Jo loved a good road trip and creating new memories, most recently a straight 22 hour drive home from New Mexico with her sister. She was eagerly looking forward to a scheduled trip to Bali.
Amy Jo will be dearly missed by her husband and best friend, Lance; children Brendan Munson, Samantha Wilcowski, Joseph Munson, and Mya Jarrett; grandchildren Brian, Amelia, and Miles; mother Mary Kay (Jim) Dahl; sister Jenny (Tim) Conlin and their children TJ (Joan), Tony, BaileyClaire, Coyan (Haley), and Madison. She is preceded in death by her father, Terry Magle, and grandparents Loren and Lea Rawlings, as well as Helen and Robert Bailey.
A Celebration of Life for Amy Jo (Magle) Hanson will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Interment will be private. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson.
