Arlene Louisa Carey, 97, born July 31, 1928, passed away Dec 24, 2025. A loving mother of two boys, Paul and Jim, Arlene was born in Northampton, Massachusetts to Paul and Mary Houston. She was the middle child of her two sisters, Jeanette and Joyce.
Arlene grew up in Greenfield, Massachusetts, just south of the Vermont border. She married Edward Carey, a Massachusetts Highway Patrolman. The two of them relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana, for Ed’s new employment as a sales representative for Greenfield Tap and Die company. There they welcomed their two sons, Paul and Jim. Arlene's young family moved to the Milwaukee area, then eventually to Bloomington, Minnesota, where they put down some roots. She was employed by the Ziegler Caterpillar Company, in their accounts payable department, where she retired after 37 years of service.
After Edward passed away, Arlene bought a home and moved to Ormond Beach, Florida to be near her sister Joyce. She got a little dog named Bleu. Arlene was well known for taking long walks in Her Florida community, stopping to talk to all of her neighbors. She eventually purchased a baby stroller for Bleu because the poor little guy couldn’t keep up with her. Her neighbors were delighted to see Arlene hiking by with her tired out pup in the stroller. After 18yrs in Florida she sold her home and moved to Presbyterian Homes in Hudson, Wisconsin, to be near son Paul and daughter-in-law Judy.
Arlene loved playing classical music on her baby grand piano, singing in her church choir and always seemed to have a needle point project in progress. She never stopped her walking regimen. Arlene could reliably be seen walking around and around her apartment building nearly every day. She leaves behind many dear friends and family who knew and loved her.
