Bettie Hinz

d. April 29, 2022

Bettie M. Hinz, 85, of Grundy Center, Iowa, formerly of Ellsworth passed away on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Creekside Living in Grundy Center. Bettie was born on August 18, 1936, the daughter of Wilbur and Virginia (Jennings) Connell. She was united in marriage to William Smith Sr. to which five children were born. They lived in Fort Madison, Iowa during their married life before William would precede her in death. She would later marry Keith Hinz. The couple lived in Ellsworth prior to his death in 2016.  Following this, she moved to Grundy Center to be closer to family as her health began to decline.

Bettie loved being a homemaker to her five children. Her faith was her foundation to which she raised her children.  Being she enjoyed being close to home, she always looked forward to watching the Golden Girls or the Christian channel playing the Gaither Band music. She also enjoyed reading. Whether getting caught up with Hollywood’s gossip in the National Inquirer or anything political, she found it relaxing to read. She had an infectious personality and always greeted you with a smile.

She is survived by her children Sheila (Bob) Stansbery, William “Bill” (Roxy) Smith, Jr., Donna (Dennis) Barnes, Mike Smith, and Brian Smith; 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Pat Reeves; brother Bill Connell; and nieces and nephews. Bettie was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Keith Hinz and William Smith, Sr.; sisters Linda and Phyllis; brother Gary; and daughter-in-law Renee Smith.
