The family of Cheryl Sobottka is saddened to announce her unexpected passing on the 21st of August, 2026. Cheryl Jean George was born December 30th, 1960 in Stillwater, Minnesota, to her parents Josephine and Norman George as the 5th out of 6 children. She attended St. Croix Central High School, where she graduated in 1979. She married the love of her life Christopher Alan Sobottka on May 12th, 1984. Cheryl lived a beautiful and humble life raising her two sons, and later alongside her beloved grandchildren, who were her pride and joy.
Cheryl’s memory lives on in the hearts of many, as the wife of her devoted husband Chris, a loving mother to her sons Cory (Kaydi) and Curtis (Amanda), and as an adoring grandmother to her grandchildren Dakota, Braelynn, Clayton, Finley, and Greyson. Cheryl is also remembered by her mother and father, along with her 4 sisters (Nancy, LuAnn, Jolene, and Kathy) and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Bill George and Father-In-Law David Sobottka.
A visitation will be held for Cheryl at 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, August 30th, at Balsam Lutheran Church in Amery, Wisconsin. Her memorial service will also be held at the Balsam Lutheran Church on Monday, August 31st at 11 a.m.. She will have a private burial surrounded by family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made out to InterFaith Caregivers of Polk County, who connect adults and seniors with disabilities like Cheryl to support their independence and quality of life.
