Clayton Edward Rasmussen

February 16, 1935 — December 9, 2025

Hammond

Clayton E. Rasmussen, 90, of Hammond, WI died December 9, 2025 at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania.

Clayton was born February 16, 1935 to Fred Rasmussen and Eva Rasmussen (nee Wells). He graduated from Hammond High School in the class of 1954 before attending the University of Wisconsin's pharmacy program. He went on to earn his PhD in physical chemistry and published his dissertation entitled “The Interaction of Penicillinase with Penicillins.”

In college, he met Rosann, who he proposed to on New Year’s Day in 1961. They got married on June 3, 1961 and, in 1970, they moved to Flanders, NJ, where they raised their three daughters.

Clayton worked in research and development for Warner-Lambert, which then became Pfizer. When he wasn’t at work, he enjoyed photography and playing basketball.

He was also a proud Wisconsin Badgers fan. When his favorite teams – volleyball, basketball and football – were not playing, he would rewatch old matches.

After retiring, he focused on his daughters and his grandchildren. Visits with them were spent teaching math, chemistry and physics and he enjoyed taking his family on vacation.

He is survived by his three daughters, Laura Rasmussen, Diane (Vince) Belcher and Karen (Eric) Balda, his six grandchildren, Christopher Zumberge, Nicole (Derick) Dupree, Megan Balda, Lilyann Belcher, Nathan Balda and Leo Belcher, and two great grandchildren, Westley Dupree and Willow Dupree. He is also survived by his extended family and friends who loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Rosann, and his brother Lyle Rasmussen, his sister Carol Williamson.

A graveside service will be Saturday, December 27th at 1pm at the Hammond Cemetery.
