Cosette Monica Hawkins, age 94 of Baldwin WI, died on June 2, 2017. Cosette was the fourth child of six born to parents Leo Vincent and Elizabeth M. (Lutz) Schmidt. Cosette graduated from Hammond High School with the Class of 1940. She was chosen by her classmates to receive the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizenship Award. While in business in Hammond, Cosette was involved in starting the Hammond Golf Club, and was one of the original charter members. Later she went on to work toward her art degree at the University of Wisconsin, taking summer and evening courses. In 1943, Cosette married Clyde Rasmussen, and to this union, four wonderful children were born: Cherie, Craig, Cele’, and Celeste. In 1968, their marriage was dissolved.
In 1978, Cosette married Kingsley Hawkins. King and Cosette lived in Lake Havasu City AZ for 17 years. During this time, Cosette enjoyed painting porcelain with many friends. Cosette was an International Porcelain Artist Teacher. In 2002, King and Cosette returned to the Baldwin area to be with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all the families.
Cosette was preceded in death by her husband, Kingsley Hawkins; her parents, Leo and Elizabeth Schmidt; brothers, Leroy and Cleo; sisters, Regina Gau, and Genevieve Shellhouse; brothers-in-law, Roman Gau, Gordon Shellhouse, John Stough, Paul Hawkins, Leon Delander, John Hawkins, and William Hawkins; sister-in-law, Loretta Hawkins; and step-son, Steve Brenna.
She leaves to mourn, her children, Cherie Johnson (friend Tom Langford), Craig (Gloria) Rasmussen, Cele’ (Cynthia) Rasmussen, and Celeste (Bruce) Berg; grandchildren, Quinn (Susie) Johnson, Jeff (Liz) Johnson, Pax (Dana) Rasmussen, Jennifer (Pete) Werdan, Molly (Scott) Rudd, Elizabeth (David) Clennon, Hannah (Jason) Heinbuch, Adam (Melissa) Berg, Jeremy (Mandy) Berg, and Steve Marik Berg; many great-grandchildren; bonus children, Chris Stork, Char Brenna, Kevin Hawkins, Margo (Bill) Schultz, Patty (Mike) Thompson, and Bryan (Jeanne) Hawkins, and their families; sister, Zita Stough; brothers-in-law, Leon (Ilene Hawkins, Ed (Peg) Hawkins, and Gary (Jennifer) Hawkins; and sisters-in-law, Mannette Hawkins, and Joann Hawkins.
A Memorial Mass for Cosette Hawkins will be held at 10:30am on Tuesday, June 6th at St. Mary’s Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1265 Ridgeway in Hammond, WI, with Rev Fr. Jerry Harris officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church. Memorials are preferred. Funeral services have been entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Baldwin, WI. 715-684-3434
