Darleen Stoppel

Darleen Louise (Ross) Stoppel, age 83, was called to her Lord Jesus Christ and her heavenly home on June 4, 2017 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born September, 13, 1933 in Sioux City, IA to Norwegian immigrants Oscar and Elizabeth Ross. As a child, the family moved to North Minneapolis.

Darleen married William (Bill) Stoppel on June 25, 1954 (married 63 years) and moved to Tanners Lake in St. Paul, MN. In 1968 they finally settled near Hammond, WI at a farm with room for all seven children. She worked at Gregerson Hardware in Baldwin, WI for over 15 years and loved working the check out registers so she could talk to everyone that came through. Summers were enjoyed with her family at her father-in-law’s lake cabin near Brainerd, MN. This became a very special place for the family. After retirement, Darleen and Bill spent their winters down south to escape the cold of Wisconsin.

She was a proud American who also enjoyed remembering her Norwegian roots and would often attend Norwegian celebrations with her sisters. Some of Darleen’s other favorite past times included rosemaling, quilting, crocheting, sewing, gardening, canning and games around the table at the cabin.

She is survived by her husband William “Bill”; her children, Mark (Wanda Sather) Stoppel, Wendy (James) Greiling, Paul Stoppel, Sandy (Donald) Honerbrink, Kristi (Christopher) Morse, Billy Stoppel, Troy (Jennie) Stoppel; grandchildren; Michael (Jenny) Greiling, Kyle Morse, Chelsea (Alex) Bearson, Kelly (Steve) Mann, Eric Honerbrink, Emma Honerbrink, Jackson Stoppel, Alice Stoppel; great-grandchildren, Alese Greiling and Nolan Greiling, and her sisters Ruth Jensen and Mary Ann Cleland. She was preceded in death by her daughter Lynn Stoppel; her parents, Oscar and Elizabeth Ross; her daughter-in-law, Molly Stoppel; her siblings, Gladys Ross, Arthur Ross, Evelyn Killmer, and Norman Ross.

Funeral services for Darleen Stoppel will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, June 12, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 581 Old Cty Rd B, in Woodville, WI. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery in Baldwin, WI.
