Darrell Paul Junk age 55 of Hudson, died peacefully September 4th, 2020 at his residence with his family by his side. Darrell was born on February 19, 1965 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin; the son of Paul and Donna Junk. He was raised in LaCrescent, Minnesota where he graduated from high school. He furthered his education at Western Technical College where he learned the trade of auto mechanic. Darrell certainly had a gift with his hands, helping family and friends with automotive issues, as he loved the challenge of troubleshooting a faulty engine. In 1986, he was united in marriage to Sandy Krammer. As a family, they enjoyed spending time camping and boating with family friends. Sadly, after a battle with cervical cancer, she died in 2002. As the kids were growing up, he took great pride in raising them with a strong faith foundation as he was active in the teen youth program at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oakdale. He worked for several Ford dealerships as a mechanic over his career, most recently with Gateway Auto of Hudson, WI. After the kids were grown, he would once again find love. He would befriend, fall in love with and then marry Rebecca Olson. They have proudly made Hudson their home. With an entrepreneurial mindset, they turned recycling metal into a hobby and eventually into a business named after him: DRJ Scrap Metal. As a team, they would pick up scrap metal from homes and businesses to recycle. They had fun roaming the countryside picking up metal. The old saying, “One man’s scrap is another man’s treasure”, came true on occasion. The lawn mower at their house was once deemed shot by a customer, but being the mechanic he was, and after some tender care, it cuts grass to this day at their home! Darrell also enjoyed tinkering around the house, building decks and other projects. Sundays were his day of rest, that is until the Vikings were on TV, then all bets were off!
Darrell will forever remain in the hearts of his wife Rebecca; children Cassy Junk, Cody (Fiancée Amber) Junk; step children Andrew Sutlick, Kristina Sutlick, Miranda Roderick, Joshua Roderick; step grandchild Everly; siblings Laurel Junk, Rhonda (Mike) Bauer, his twin Dean (Renee) Junk; mother-in-law Dawn Olson and her extended family. He joins his wife Sandy in death.
Mass of Christian Burial for Darrell Junk will be 1:30pm, Friday September 11th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson. Burial will be in the Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights. Visitation will be from 4pm to 6pm Thursday, September 10th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson as well as one hour prior to the mass at church Friday afternoon. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family.
