David Fredrickson

David Leigh Fredrickson, 78, of Beldenville, WI, died October 3, 2015 during his battle with pneumonia while diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was a former resident of Duluth, MN; Duncansville, PA; Brainerd, MN; and Robbinsdale, MN.

David was born on February 28, 1937 in Minneapolis, MN to Walter and Janie (Barnard) Fredrickson.

He graduated from Duluth East High School in 1955. Following high school, David continued on to the University of Minnesota- Minneapolis, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1960. David was a member of the Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity while attending the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

David married Judith Cameron on September 10, 1960 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Duluth, MN. They raised three sons. Following the death of Judith in 2012, David found love for a second time with Kathleen Wesselink. David and Kathleen were wed on August 10, 2014 in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Duluth, MN.

The majority of David’s professional life was spent in the pulp and paper industry as an Engineer for Northwest Paper Company in Brainerd, MN and Plant Engineer for the NCR Paper Mill in Roaring Springs, PA. In 1996, David retired as a Plant Engineer for the Superwood Company in Duluth, MN after 20 years of service in the company. David was licensed as a Professional Engineer in the states of MN, WI, and PA.

David’s greatest passion was home improvement projects where he was quite skilled at woodworking and carpentry. He enjoyed the great outdoors as his family had a long history of camping on Seagull Lake at the northern end of Minnesota‘s Gunflint Trail. He was an enthusiastic dog-lover and trained three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels he owned. He enjoyed travel, particularly when it involved visits with family.

David is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judith, his sisters Janie Figen and Gwendoline Rouse, his father-in-law Lyle Cameron, and his sister-in-law Joy (Cameron) Von Heintschel.

David is survived by his wife Kathleen; his sons Thomas of St. Paul, MN, Daniel (Jackie) of Cypress, TX, and Leigh of New York, NY; his brothers W. Thomas (Gayle) of Saginaw, MN and William (Mary) of Pacific Grove, CA; his grandsons Reis, Bryce, and Wyatt Fredrickson; his granddaughter Cameron Fredrickson; his mother-in-law Amelia (Henry) Takala of Anacortes, WA; his brothers-in-law Keith (Sandy) Cameron of Maplewood, MN and Lowell Figen of Monterey, CA; Kathleen’s daughters Colette (Larry), Shawna (Glen), Heidi (Lance), Maylene (William); and Kathleen’s son Cordell.

A Memorial Service will be held for David at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 502 Cty Rd UU, Hudson.
