Hudson

Dennis James Rivard, age 71, of Hudson, passed away on his birthday, May 17, 2026, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was born in 1955 in New Richmond, Wisconsin to George and Virginia (Menefee) Rivard.

Dennis attended Hudson High School and, following graduation, proudly served in the United States Army. Throughout his life, he worked in many different roles and was known for his strong work ethic, problem-solving abilities, and willingness to help anyone in need. He later retired from Home Depot in Hudson after several years there, where he formed many lasting friendships.

In 1977, Dennis met the love of his life, Catherine, at Hudson’s Fourth of July Booster Days celebration. They were married on March 3, 1978, in Hudson, and together built a life centered on love, family, and countless cherished memories throughout the years.

Dennis was a man who could do just about anything. Skilled in woodworking, home repair, and all kinds of handy work, he was often the person others turned to when something needed fixing. He had a natural talent for solving problems and could repair nearly anything placed in front of him. He was passionate about cooking and found great joy in preparing meals for his family and sharing food with those he loved. He also enjoyed gardening, flowers, and rock collecting, always appreciating the beauty and uniqueness he found in the world around him.

Dennis deeply loved the outdoors and spent much of his time camping, biking, hiking, and fishing. Nature was where he felt most at peace, and he treasured every opportunity to be outside.

Those who knew Dennis will remember him as an outgoing and social man who could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had a gift for making people feel welcome and formed friendships wherever he went. More than anything, Dennis was a devoted husband, father, family member, and friend whose strength, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of so many.

To his family, Dennis was the strongest man they had ever known — not only for his resilience through life’s challenges, but for the love, guidance, and unwavering support he gave so freely. He taught those around him the value of hard work, perseverance, compassion, and helping others whenever possible. The lessons he shared through both his words and his actions will continue to live on through everyone who loved him.

Though the pain of losing him is impossible to put into words, his family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy of strength, kindness, and love will carry forward for generations to come. He will be deeply missed every day and lovingly remembered forever.

Above all, Dennis was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife Catherine Rivard; his daughter Rebecca (Randy) Gustafson; and his grandchildren Aryan Schoene, Annita Schoene. He is also survived by his brother Charles (Margaret) Rivard and sister Kathie Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George, and Virginia Rivard; his brothers Neil, Steve, George, and Gerald Rivard; and his son-in-law Andreas Schoene.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at O’Connell Family Funeral Homes in Hudson, Wisconsin.
