It is with deep gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Derrell A. Lang, who left us peacefully at his home on April 3, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on December 5, 1942, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Derrell was a beloved husband, father, brother and friend.
Derrell was the eldest son of Norbert C and Anita (Dreikosen) Lang. He graduated from Marathon High School in 1960. Derrell served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968, where he honed his skills as an airplane mechanic. This commitment to excellence and precision carried over to his civilian life, where he worked at Hoffer Glass in Wausau for many years. Following his dreams and entrepreneurial spirit, Derrell founded Tomahawk Battery and Glass in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, a testament to his ambition and hard work.
In September 1972, Derrell married the love of his life, Jeanne Trester in Rib Mountain, Wisconsin. Their marriage of 53 years was a partnership filled with love, mutual respect and unwavering support. Together they built a home and raised two children, Jenny Grams (David) and Tim Lang (Amanda). His legacy of love continues through his grandchildren, Mason Lang and Nikhil Grams, whom he adored and cherished.
Derrell shared a special bond with his siblings, Virgil, Laurie, and Mary, who were his lifelong companions and friends. Family gatherings were always filled with laughter and warmth.
An avid outdoorsman, Derrell found solace and adventure in nature. He was a passionate deer hunter, spending every season with his lifelong friend, Bill Rennie, at their hunting camp in Willard. His love of trap shooting and annual fishing trips to Canada were highlights of his adventurous spirit. In his later years, Derrell found joy in the simple pleasures of life – visits from family, sharing stories over a cold beer and indulging in his favorite western movies. Derrell’s life was a testament to the power of kindness, humor, and dedication. His warmth and generosity of spirit will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Derrell’s life will be held on April 10, 2026, at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in River Falls, WI. Visitation at 10 AM with the service following at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Somo Fish & Game Club, PO Box 163, Tomahawk, WI 54487, an organization close to Derrell’s heart.
As we bid farewell to Derrell, we hold onto the memories of his laughter, love and unwavering strength. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love.
