Don Hoglund

Don Aldon Hoglund, age 84 of Hudson, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids died peacefully March 5th, 2021 at Comforts Of Home in Hudson. Don was born on November 6, 1936 in Des Moines, Iowa; the son of Thorie and Ethel Hoglund. Being raised in the Twin Cities, he graduated from Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis in 1955. He would further his studies by receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in American Studies. On April 24, 1965, he was united in marriage to Rose Marie Wally at Ascension Catholic Church in Minneapolis. To this union, two children were blessed. The old adage, opposites attract was fitting. While Rose was a natural socialite, Don was more reserved, but enjoyed engaging in intellectual conversations. He worked many years for the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois in their quality assurance division. He was a gifted journalist who enjoyed research and metrics in creating and offering the best products or solutions for whom he worked. He took great pride in analyzing his subjects. In his early years, he truly enjoyed writing his column for small town newspapers and in his later years writing nonfiction and fiction stories for his HubPages blog. Don especially enjoyed reading westerns and mysteries. Don also enjoyed day trips with his wife. Over the years, they liked to visit town folk festivals for the music, heritage, food, and fun.

Don is survived by his children: Mark (Margaret) Hoglund of Hudson, WI, Elise (Kyle) Kisch of Fridley, MN; grandchildren: Josh, Kara, Una, Seth, Erin Spreiter and Josie Kisch, brother-in-law Jim Vint of New Brighton, sister-in-law Margaret Hoglund of Fridley; several nieces and nephews, many friends and family. Don is preceded in death by his wife Rose, siblings Richard Lyle (Marcella) Hoglund, Rose Marie Vint, and Eugene Wallace Hoglund.

Don’s life will be commemorated by his family with a service at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home of Hudson. Burial will be in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery with his family having the honor of casketbearers Joshua Hoglund, Erin Spreiter, Kara Hoglund, Seth Hoglund and Kyle Kisch.
