Donna Marie Foster Lucas, affectionately known as "Dondo" to her closest friends, was a woman of deep contradictions in the best possible way-she could drive you crazy one minute and offer you the shirt off her back the next. Her fierce love, unwavering generosity, and genuine loyalty made her unforgettable to all who knew her. Donna passed away on June 5, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and lasting connections.
Born on July 12, 1952, in Faribault, Minnesota, Donna was the daughter of Charles and Renee Foster. The family moved to River Falls, Wisconsin, in 1954, where Donna spent much of her early life and formed friendships that would last a lifetime. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Carolyn Olson, and her great-niece Daphne Renee Shira. Donna's proudest role was as a mother to her son, Max Foster, who will forever cherish her love, strength, and guidance. She also shared many meaningful years with Tom Petricka, who held a special place in her heart during their more than a dozen years together.
As the middle sister to Carolyn Olsen, Linda Foster and Marianne Shira, Donna shared a sisterly bond built on laughter, understanding, and unconditional support. Her love extended far beyond immediate family-she was a devoted aunt to 12 nieces and nephews, a beloved great-aunt to 18 great-nieces and nephews, and a proud great-great-aunt to 3.
Donna's professional career spanned 34 years at the Pioneer Press in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she thrived in advertising sales. But for Donna, work was never just about business-it was about people. She built deep relationships, earned trust, and became a respected and familiar face in the St. Paul business community. Even after retiring in 2012, the friendships and connections she built continued to enrich her life.
Her roots in River Falls remained strong throughout her life. The friends she made in childhood stayed with her through the years, a testament to the loyalty and love she gave so freely. Donna's legacy is one of compassion, strength, humor, and an unshakeable loyalty to those she loved.
To honor Donna's memory, an informal get together and celebration will be held at St. Croix Lanes in River Falls on July 12, 2025 from 5:00-7:00 pm. This being her birthday, and as many of you know, she loved to celebrate. In lieu of flowers, any donations will go toward continued support for her son, Max. We hope Max will feel the love and support during such a meaningful time. Donna will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit lives on in the stories, laughter, and love she leaves behind.
