Doris Krueger

d. November 7, 2013

Doris M. Krueger passed away at Good Samaritan Society – Stillwater, Minnesota on Thursday, November 7, 2013. She was 93 years old.

Doris was born in Makoti, North Dakota on May 2, 1920 to Ralph and Anna (Schultz) Powers. She was a toddler when the family moved to a farm near Emerald, Wisconsin. Doris attended Roddis Grade and graduated from Glenwood City High School.

During high school, Doris worked at the Glenwood City movie theater. After high school, she worked as a housekeeper for a family in Minneapolis.

Family and home were important to Doris. She married Richard Krueger on October 20, 1940 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Deer Park, Wisconsin. Four children were born to this marriage: Carol (Gary) Smith, Donna (Ted) Waech, Barbara Krueger and David (Jill) Krueger. Doris and Richard demonstrated working as a team during nearly 70 years of marriage.

Doris was a dedicated farm wife. She could go from cooking a meal to driving the tractor for fieldwork all in the same day. Doris and Richard took pride in their Holstein dairy herd and farm. Over the years, people would remark on how meticulous the farm was. Cleanliness was definitely next to godliness at the Krueger’s. Doris and Richard won numerous milk quality awards and DHIA records.

The coffee pot and treats were ever ready for family and friends. Activity in the kitchen ranged from cooking three meals a day to canning (especially dill pickles) to baking Christmas cookies.

Sewing and needlework were two of Doris’ favorite pastimes whether making clothing for her family or mending it.

Doris and Richard’s togetherness often found them tending their flower and vegetable gardens with bountiful results. Doris shared her love of nature including bird watching with her family. There was always room for one more pet in the house whether finned, furred or feathered.

Predeceasing Doris was her husband, Richard Krueger; her parents, Ralph and Anna Powers; sister, Arlene Faught Skafish; brother, Calvin ‘Bud’ Powers; brothers-in-law, Ralph Eggen, Roy Johnson, Byron ‘Bud’ Koeppen and Ray Krueger; and sisters-in-law, Irene Krueger and Alice Koeppen.

Doris is survived by her four children; three grandchildren, Nathan Waech, Rebecca (Erik) Paulson, and Katie (Kyle) Pederson; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Waech, Maisy Waech, JT Paulson and Jakob Paulson.

She is also survived by sisters, Ruth Johnson and Eleanor Eggen; sister-in-law, Glendetta Powers; and brother-in-law, Donnie (Bernice) Krueger; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorials are preferred.

On Saturday, November 16, 2013 St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 214 North Street W., in Deer Park, WI will be the site for the visitation from 12:30–2:00PM, and for the Memorial Service at 2:00PM, with Rev. John Wilman officiating.
