Elva Virginia Powers

Elva Virginia Powers, age 98 of Hudson WI and formerly of Stillwater MN, died on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Comforts of Home in Hudson. Elva was born June 6, 1914 in East Gary, Indiana to parents Henry E. and Carolina Christina (Hansen) Andersen. Elva was the youngest of seven girls in her family, and graduated high school from Hobart, Indiana. At age 20, she was united in marriage to Robert Samuel Powers on July 10, 1934. Their union in marriage would be blessed with two daughters.

Elva was a loving wife and mother, and a dedicated homemaker. She was also an avid gardener and member of the garden club, a quilter and seamstress, and a painter. Elva was also a Santa and doll collector, making many of her own dolls. Over the years, her family grew into three generations of grandkids, and Elva loved her grandchildren! Elva leaves a legacy of love and laughter for all who knew and loved her.

Elva is survived by her daughter, Ginger (Jim) LaMotte of Osceola; son-in-law, Milo Gray of Hudson; grandchildren, Ronda (Dan) Gowan, Tracy Reid, Sean McCauley, Steven (Kristin) Gray, and Jeff (Debra) Powers; great-grandchildren, Meghan (John) Huss, Greg Gowan, Sam Gowan, Emily Reid, Noah Gray, Micah Gray, Ruthie Gray, and Emilia Powers; great-great-grandson, Carlos Soto; as well as numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends. Elva was preceded in death by her husband Robert Powers; daughter Roberta Gray; granddaughter Cynthia Lynn Thompson; her parents; and her six sisters.

Funeral services for Elva Powers will be held at 11:00a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 11th Street S., in Hudson WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery of Stillwater MN.
