Esther Ida Simpson (nee: Porter), age 96, of Hudson, WI, formerly of Roberts, passed away on September 19, 2012 at United Hospital in St. Paul.

Ida was born on April 23, 1916 to Spencer and Mary (McLean) Porter in Elstow, Saskatchewan. After graduating high school in Roberts, she married Lynos Simpson on September 19, 1936 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Hudson.

For over 20 years, Ida worked for United Refrigeration where she was the first woman ever to work there. Ida was a fantastic baker and cook. Along with that, she enjoyed sewing and made many items of clothing for her children and grandchildren. Above all, family was her life and she was described as a helpful, generous, and caring person.

Ida is survived by her children, MaryAnn Reed, Richard Simpson, Carol (David) Boles, and Gerald Simpson; grandchildren, Marcel Jr. (Patty) Hoaglan, Misty (Tom) Frederick, Melody (Roger) Anderson, Richard Simpson Jr., Lonny Simpson, Chad Simpson, Shawn Simpson, Brandon Simpson, Lisa (Tony) Rambo, Scott (Becky) Simpson, Tracy (Richie) Prescott, Brandon Ellefson, and Kayla Baron; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Hattie Wagner; along with many dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lynos; and brother, Spencer Porter Jr.

A visitation for Ida will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, September 21 at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 505 13th St., Hudson, WI. Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 22 at People’s Congregation Church, 293 3rd St. N, Bayport, MN. Interment at Willow River Cemetery with reception following.
