Floyd Leon Miller, the only child of Bertha (Stephenson) and O’Neil Miller, was born August 2, 1932 in Deer Lodge Montana and died peacefully at the Prescott Nursing and Rehabilitation Community on December 16, 2021.
As a youngster, Floyd moved to Harlowton where he grew up exploring the flats of central Montana and skipping school to go hunting with his dog Rusty. After high school graduation in 1950, proudly Floyd served in the Montana National guard while simultaneously starting his electrician apprenticeship with the Milwaukee Railroad. He worked as a journeyman electrician until 1987 and was a 70 year member of the IBEW.
On April 20, 1963 Floyd married Anita Vezey and four years later they adopted Paul and then Amy in 1970. The railroad transferred their roundhouse crew to St. Paul, Minnesota and in 1976 the Miller family of four moved from Deer Lodge to the Mississippi River valley settling in western Wisconsin. Floyd, who loved being social and helping others, quickly integrated himself as an active member of the Prescott United Church of Church and the Boy Scouts of America where he served in many leading roles. Later in life he was a charter member of the Prescott Memory Cafe and enjoyed biweekly socializing.
Floyd’s family was the center of his life and he loved kids of all ages. He was always up for neighborhood baseball games, sledding, backyard fire pits and camping. His grandsons were the highlight of his latter decades and shared wisdom about the joy of living, coupled with overcoming life’s challenges. Floyd filled his days bird watching, solving word searches, putting together puzzles with his wonderful caregiver Craig Mader or playing cards with Anita.
Floyd’s greatest gift was storytelling. His menagerie of childhood mischief brought out laughs as those around him were captivated with his simple yet infectious demeanor.
Floyd is survived by Anita Miller, his dedicated wife of 58 years; son Paul Miller and wife Brenda of Ruskin, Florida; daughter Amy Wolf and husband Tom of Bellevue, Washington; grandsons Austin Miller (23) and wife Shawnna Lantz, Aron Miller (22), Skyler Wolf (17) and Leyton Wolf (10) as well as precious great-granddaughter Ember Miller; sisters-in-law Jean Rabern and Gaye Vezey. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law J.D. Vezey and Gene Borsheim.
Throughout his entire life Floyd was surrounded by a plethora of family and friends and incredibly special daycare children who were considered near and dear family members.
