Gary Lee Klund, age 82, of Cumberland and Hudson, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on June 19, 2025, at Hudson Hospital. Born on May 20, 1943, in New London, WI, Gary was the beloved son of Margaret (Gunderson) and Ralph Klund. He grew up in Hudson and graduated from Hudson High School.
Gary shared 62 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Judith (Thompson) Klund. Together, they raised four children: Kelly Kenall (Leon), Kirk Klund (Stacy), Kraig Klund (Kristin), and Kris Klund (Kari). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Korey, Katie, Kiley, Skylar, Makena, Anika, Vince, Everett, Siera, and Talen, and a great-grandfather to Ellidy and Knox.
A hardworking entrepreneur, Gary successfully ran Klund Construction for over 40 years. His sons had the privilege of working alongside him for many of those years. He also held a black belt in karate, and taught martial arts for many years before retiring to the lake home he and Judy cherished in Cumberland.
Gary was known for his generous spirit and fierce loyalty. He was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, a steadfast supporter of his children and grandchildren at countless sporting events, and a quiet champion of those in need—always willing to lend a hand or offer encouragement. Fond memories included waterskiing, boating, and camping on the St Croix. He especially enjoyed vacations with family and friends to Ixtapa Mexico, Florida, Hawaii, and Canada fishing trips. He was the “keeper of Sand Lake” in Cumberland and served on the lake board for many years. If there was a muskie or big walleye caught, he was the first to know about it. He loved fishing with his kids and grandkids and especially loved adding their fish photos to the “board’. In the last couple of years, one of his greatest joys was riding his tractor and tending to the lawn, surrounded by nature and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at O’Connell Funeral Home in Hudson, followed by a service at 2:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to continue gathering afterward at the Hudson Marina party room (16 1st Street, Hudson).
Gary’s presence, laughter, and steady strength will be missed deeply by all who knew and loved him.
