George R. Ring
Somerset Businessman
George was born in Erin Prairie to proud Irish parents on June 2, 1933. And in true George Ring fashion, exactly 40 years to the day of the grand opening of the Rendezvous, he passed away on April Fool’s Day! In his younger years, he was coached by his hero, Green Bay Packers Hall of Famer, Johnny Blood McNally. George continued his passion for sports by forming the first Somerset Little League Baseball Team. On the best day of his life, he was united in marriage to his great love, Janice “Faye” Breault on June 19, 1954 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Somerset, WI. Their union was blessed with six rambunctious children.
The four great constants in his life have always been his friends, his community, his business and his family. Without fail, George’s day began at 6:00 am, meeting with his coffee cronies at The Sportsman. Here, the topics of the day included good natured teasing, the weather and solving the great issues that faced the Village. From there, he’d pursue his passions relating to the Rendevous and supporting the Tavern League. Finally, at family gatherings, you would always find him holding court at the kitchen table.
George will fondly remain in the hearts of his wife of 62 years – Faye; children: Rod, Shelley (Waco) Early, Mike, Monique Hammer Ring, and Pat (Sue); daughter-at-heart, Sheila Briese; daughter-in-law, Mary Ann; grandchildren: Sarah (Vinnie), Colin (Angie), Sean (Kalli), Stephanie, Kellie, Ben, Brady, Georgia “George,” Roxanne, Josh and Christopher; great-grandchildren: Connor, Mickey, Quinn, Evelyn and Declan; sister, Mary Jo (Elliot) Horne; his inspiration, Bonnie Sievert; as well as other relatives, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Greg; granddaughter, Sadie; parents, John C. and Alice Ring; brothers, Ronnie and Jack; and sister, Rita Stanek.
Summing up George’s life, his family keeps coming back to one thought… Never has there been a man more faithful to his wife and family. He worked hard and was devoted to his business and community, loved and cared for his family, and created wonderful memories with his witty story telling. George was an amazing man who showed us what selflessness and love truly mean.
