Grover F. Doebel, age 85, of Ellsworth, died on June 11, 2025, at Hudson Hospital in Hudson, Wisconsin. Grover was born on February 29, 1940, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, the son of Arthur and Luella (Coffey) Doebel. He was raised in Lakeville, Minnesota, where he graduated from high school. As a young boy, he had fond memories of spending time at his grandparents' farm, helping his grandpa with chores-and if he was lucky, getting to ride on the big red tractor.
Grover was a simple man who enjoyed the little things in life. He loved catching up with friends during his regular stops for a cold MGD. He liked to razz people and see if he could get under their skin-but deep down, he was a teddy bear. He enjoyed Thursday night euchre at Snowballs and watching the Vikings on Sundays. He was an over the road truck driver for many years. After retiring as a truck driver he delivered the Pioneer Press faithfully and took joy in dressing up as Santa for the Ellsworth Care Center and local businesses.
He had a fondness for old westerns like Gunsmoke or John Wayne movies, enjoyed working on puzzles, dabbling in his vegetable garden, and always made sure his bird feeders were full.
Grover is survived by his sister, Maxine Letourneau, and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Luella (Coffey) Doebel; siblings Paul, John, Shirley Frederick, and Adona Rice; and niece Michelle Frederick Foster.
A Funeral Service for Grover Doebel will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 130 N. Grant Street, Ellsworth. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Mendota Heights, with his family serving as casketbearers. Memorials may be directed to the funeral home.
Funeral services are entrusted to the O'Connell Family Funeral Home of Ellsworth.
