Helen Margaret Tschida

Helen Margaret (Brown) Tschida, age 82, of North Hudson, Wisconsin, passed away on August 12, 2026 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on January 5, 1944, and grew up in Roberts, Wisconsin, where she developed the values and strengths that shaped her life.

In 1962, Helen met the love of her life, Michael Tschida. They were married on May 16, 1964 in Hammond, Wisconsin. They settled in Hudson and became members of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Together, they had two children, Stephen and Christina. They eventually moved to North Hudson where they developed strong friendships with their neighbors and community.

Helen was devoted to her family, friends, and the church. She loved spending time putting together puzzles, taking pictures of family and friends, working math and word puzzles, and playing bingo. Helen was very thoughtful and enjoyed celebrating with her family and friends. She never missed a birthday and loved ones received a card from her every year.

Helen was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church for 62 years. She led a life of quiet service to God and the church. She summed up her philosophy of service by saying, “If someone needs help, I’m going to help them.” After retiring, Helen worked many hours in a variety of ministries within her parish and community. She worked at the community food shelf and her church’s weekly food distribution. She helped coordinate, pack, and distribute donations from parishioners to a local charity and over the years, helped with countless food drives. When one of her longtime friends developed Alzheimer's Disease, she began visiting her weekly. Helen quickly befriended many other residents and even got her husband involved by playing his accordion for them. They did this together for ten years. For the last 15 years, Helen was involved in and chaired one of the women’s groups that prepared and served food for the funerals held at the church. She and Mike quietly helped set up, clean, and take down tables and chairs for each meal. Even toward the end, when she was unable to physically do the work, she remained involved by calling others with requests for donations and food items. Helen was nominated for the Pax Christi Award in 2012, which honors exemplary lay and religious women for their dedicated service to the Gospel and the community. In her nomination letter it was said that Helen “exemplifies the love of God and the gentle, willing spirit of Mary in the many ways she serves her parish.”

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, William and Millie Brown; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stefan and Elizabeth Tschida of Austria; her grandson, Derek “D” Tschida; and many other family and friends.

Helen is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Michael Tschida; her son, Stephen (Amy) Tschida; her daughter Christina (Martha) Tschida; and her grandchildren Morgan, Lynsey, Jackson, and Jacob; along with numerous nieces and nephew, extended family, and dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 19 at 2 pm with visitation one hour prior to mass at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hudson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church (care of Kitchen Renovation Fund), a reflection of her lifelong commitment to serving others.

Helen’s presence will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, and in the love she gave so freely.
