James Aloysius Klinkner Foster

James “Jim” Aloysius Klinkner Foster, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, faithful servant, and proud Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026, at the age of 85.

Born in the heart of Chicago, Illinois, Jim’s early years were shaped by the Windy City, where he developed the strong work ethic, determination, and commitment to serving others that would define his life. He later enlisted in the United States Navy, proudly dedicating six years of service to his country. After leaving the Navy, he married and had four children.

The name James carries the meaning “helpful friend,” a description that could not have been more fitting for Jim. He lived his life looking for ways to support others, often quietly and without expecting anything in return. Generosity wasn’t something he talked about — it was simply who he was. If someone needed a hand, an opportunity, or a little extra help getting back on their feet, Jim was often there.

Jim married Roxy Foster in 1982, and together they planted roots in St. Paul, MN. Jim turned his talent for craftsmanship into a successful career as a bricklayer, eventually establishing his own business. He took tremendous pride in his work, especially restoration projects that allowed him to preserve the beauty and history of local architecture while leaving his mark on the community. Throughout his career, Jim was known for seeking out those experiencing hardship, offering day jobs and same-day pay to anyone in need of an opportunity. He believed in hard work, but above all, he believed in giving people a second chance.

Jim’s faith guided the way he lived, loved, served, and cared for others. Through the many seasons of his life — including his long journey with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia — that foundation of faith remained an important part of who he was. His family finds comfort knowing that his earthly struggles are now over and that he is home with Jesus — healed, whole, and free.

Above all, Jim loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father and grandfather, and someone who could always be counted on to cheer on the people he loved. His family will remember his strength, generosity, faith, work ethic, and the countless ways — both big and small — that he showed his love.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Roxanna Foster; his children, Cathy Tullis, Bryan Klinkner, Steven Klinkner, Matt Foster (Abby Foster), and Mary Johnson (Jacob Johnson); beloved grandchildren, Tate Foster, Brady Foster, Griffin Foster, Noah Johnson, Macrae Foster, Lilly Johnson, Amber Freeman, Stephanie Tullis, and Bradley Tullis; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Gertrude Klinkner; his sisters, Joan Yearling, Gertrude Oliveri, Annette Murphy, and Delores Barber; and his son, Michael Klinkner.

Family and friends will gather to honor Jim’s life on October 10, 2026, at O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, Wisconsin. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. A luncheon will follow at 1:00 p.m., providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together, share stories, laugh, remember, and celebrate a life that touched so many others.

Jim will be laid to rest at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on October 28, 2026, at 9:30 a.m., receiving a final and fitting salute for his service to his country.

Jim leaves behind far more than the buildings he helped restore or the work he accomplished during his lifetime. His legacy lives on in the people he helped, the family he loved, the faith he carried, and the example he set.
