James Merrill Krook passed away on March 18, 2026, surrounded by his family. Born in Litchfield, Minnesota, to Merrill and Gertrude Krook, Jim spent his youth growing up in the City of Minneapolis. He went on to serve in the US Army and later attended the University of Minnesota. In 1963, he and Sue Pennington were joined in a marriage that spanned almost sixty-four years. They raised three children in Wayzata, Minnesota and Colorado Springs, Colorado, returning later to the Midwest in 1990, where they resided for over 34 years in Wayzata and Hudson, Wisconsin. Jim turned his talents for meticulous detail into a successful career as a general contractor for many years and eventually retired in 2010. His legacy remains etched into the many homes he fashioned and the families that enjoy them today. Jim devoted his life to his family in so many ways. Today, they serve as a living testament to his love, commitment and devotion.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jim is survived by his wife, Sue; his children, Jennifer, Christopher (Catherine), and Anthony; seven grandchildren, Kelsey, Matthew, Riley, Emmah, Kameron, Maddox and Memphis; and three great grandchildren, Murphy, Lucy, and William.
A service to honor Jim will be held on Thursday, May 7th at 3:00 pm at The Cathedral Church of St. Mark located at 519 Oak Street in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Following the Service, family and friends are welcome to gather in the Fireplace Room at the Church.
