James “Otis” Poppe

d. March 3, 2025

James “Otis” Poppe, age 62, passed away unexpectedly on March 3rd, 2025, in the comfort of his home. He was born the second of three children to Daniel “Boone” and Marie Poppe. James graduated from Baldwin-Woodville High School with the class of 1980. On October 3rd, 1987, James married Julie Gunderson, and were blessed with two children, Trevor, and Hannah. Their marriage would later dissolve.

Jim grew up with a love for the outdoors, which remained constant throughout his life. His passion for hunting, fishing, and raising dogs shaped his character, and he enjoyed countless hours spent in the woods, on the water, and caring for his animals. If you couldn’t find him, most likely he’d be in the woods setting up salt blocks, up North at a cabin, or spending time with friends at a local watering hole.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Jim was a fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, and enjoyed keeping up with the local sports teams. He liked keeping his hands busy whether it was cooking and baking, crafting items out of wood, throwing darts, or playing volleyball, Jim was always moving.

Jim is survived by his children Trevor Poppe and Hannah Poppe. Also, by Mark (Kim) Poppe, Nathan Poppe, Kristina Poppe, Kay (Mike) Dorwin, Heather (Ross) Thomas, Devon, Sawyer, and Harper, Eric Dorwin, and his dog Brewski. He was preceded in death by his parents.

No formal service will be held, instead, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.

James will forever be missed but never forgotten. His love for his children and passion for outdoors, sports, and dogs will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Memorials preferred to family in care of O’Connell Funeral Homes, Baldwin, WI.
