James Joseph Stenger

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James Joseph Stenger, a beloved husband, step-father, and cherished friend, who left this world on April 6, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on June 25, 1947, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Jim was kind, gentle and loving.

With a career as a Parts Manager for various auto dealerships, including Chevy and GMC, he was admired for his work ethic, expertise, and the genuine care he extended to those he worked with. Jim also encompassed this genuine care when he worked as a Police Officer for the MN State Fair.

Outside of his professional life, Jim had a passion for sports. He delighted in cheering for the Minnesota Wild, the Vikings, and watching baseball games, celebrating the thrill of the game and the beauty of nature. Fishing trips on Balsam Lake, WI, were a hallmark of his time spent there, where he found peace and joy in the tranquility of the water.

Jim’s love for life extended to his cherished animals. He found great joy in raising horses and adored the companionship of dogs & cats, illustrating his kindness and compassion for all living things. In the simplicity of life, Jim found happiness, whether it was eating a Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich or eating a hamburger out with his beloved wife, Nancie.

Jim’s spirit and zest for life will be profoundly missed by his devoted spouse Nancie Stenger; her son Joey (Michelle) Layer; grandchildren Sai (Christina), Corbin, Nicholas (Kalli), Alex, Beverly; great-grandchildren Quinn, Sebastian and Nora; nephews; step-daughter Kellie Layer.
He was preceded in death by parents George and Jeanette Stenger; brothers Thomas and Richard Stenger; aunt and uncle Ken and Elaine Hanson.

In celebration of Jim’s life, friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th Street, Hudson, WI, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.

As we reflect on Jim’s life, we are reminded of the warmth he brought to those around him, the laughter shared, and the love that continues to live on in our hearts. May we carry his spirit forward as we cherish the memories of a remarkable man who truly embraced the beauty of life.
