James Strandquist

d. October 14, 2019

James “Jim” Strandquist, age 84 of Hudson, passed away at his home on October 14, 2019. Jim was born on March 28, 1935 in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin to parents Carl “Ray” and Lola. He spent his early years living in Hanlontown Iowa before moving to Hudson with his mom and step dad, Brad Cook. Jim was very close to his step dad who taught him how to hunt and got him interested in rifle shooting. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1952 and enlisted in the army where he served from 1954 to 1956. After his time in the service he became a carpenter, which he did for 25 years before starting his dream job as a truck driver just like his dad. He married the love of his life Marilyn Benoy on April 19, 1958 at The Little Brown Church in Iowa and together was blessed with three children.

Jim was a long time member of the Hudson Rod & Gun Club and was passionate about target shooting, reloading, and he admired the craftsmanship in older guns. He even competed in some local shooting competitions and even one out in South Dakota. He loved everything about the Wild West and was an old western history buff. Some would consider him a workaholic but he always found time to be with his family and was so proud to be a husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.

He will remain in the hearts of his wife of over 60 years Marilyn; children Brad, Clay (Mary), and Sandi (Scott) Hentges; grandchildren Rex, Dylan (Cerina), Jesse (Taylor), Briana, and Cole; great-grandchildren Emmy Lou and Wyatt James on the way. He is preceded in death by his dad Ray Strandquist, mom Lola Cook and his step dad Brad Cook.

A funeral service for Jim will be held at 12pm on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson. Visitation will be from 10am – 12am before the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Houlton Cemetery after the service. Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family.
