Janet R. Laatsch (Nee Solsvig)

Janet R. Laatsch (nee: Solsvig), age 80, of Clearwater, FL, formerly of Hudson, WI passed away on December 14, 2014 surrounded by her children.

Janet was born on January 17, 1934 in Minneapolis, MN to Eldon and Ruth (Guiswite) Solsvig. She attended grade school in North Hudson, and graduated from Hudson High School in 1951.

Upon her graduation, she began working at NorLake as a secretary. She also worked for Tom and Clark O’Connell’s Taxi Company, and then worked for the State of Wisconsin in the Petroleum Inspection Department as a receptionist.

On September 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to Roy Laatsch at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hudson. Their marriage was blessed with four children: Marilyn, Mark, Nancy, and David. In 1979, Janet and Roy and their children moved to Dunedin, FL for Roy’s job. For many years, she was an Administrative Assistant for the Public Works Department for the City of Clearwater, Florida.

Janet enjoyed playing the piano, taking family pictures, growing orchids and playing Mahjong with her friends.  She also loved to travel.  A few of her favorite travels included the North Shore on Lake Superior and Honeymoon Island State Park in Florida, where she enjoyed being on the beach. She was fortunate to experience many cruises with her husband and family.

Most important to Janet was her family.  She appreciated spending as much time as she could with her children and grandchildren.  She was a wonderful cook and took pleasure in providing comforting meals and making a wonderful home for her family. Her gracious heart and thoughtfulness will always be remembered, and she will be dearly missed.

Janet will remain in the hearts of her children: Marilyn (Chris) Markham, Mark (Lisa) Laatsch, Nancy Vandersalm, and David (Eileen Armstrong) Laatsch; grandchildren: Christy (Tim) Karcher, Laura Markham, Matt Laatsch, Daniel Laatsch, and Jacob Laatsch; brother, George Solsvig; aunt, Merese Millard; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; her parents; and a stillborn sister.

A Visitation for Janet will be held 12 NOON – 2:00 PM Friday, December 19, 2014 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, with a funeral service following at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment at Willow River Cemetery. Pallbearers assisting with the services will be:  Dave Laatsch, Jacob Laatsch, Matt Laatsch, Daniel Laatsch, Chris Markham and Tim Karcher.  Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church of Hudson.
