Jay Owen Cambern, age 78 of Hudson, WI, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Regions Hospital due to medical complications in St. Paul, MN.
Jay was born July 27, 1947, in Austin, MN, to Dale and Beverly Cambern. He grew up in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. In 1965, following high school, Jay enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed on the East Coast and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War and separated in 1969. After his U.S. Navy service, Jay returned to Austin, MN, where he met the love of his life, Becky Steinhauer. They were united in marriage on August 29, 1970, in Albert Lea, MN. They established their home in Stewartville, MN and later in Rochester, MN, and welcomed two sons, Jason and Travis. During this time, Jay worked at Roberts Foods and enjoyed being a husband and father.
In 1985, Jay and his family moved to Baldwin, WI, where he continued his career at Hansen’s. He especially enjoyed time with family – playing sports in the yard, playing cards, swimming in the family pool, fishing and hunting with his boys, and golfing. He faithfully attended his boys’ sporting events and activities throughout their high school years. In 1992, Jay and Becky moved to Hudson, WI, and Jay continued his career at U.S. Foods. In 2009, Jay lost the love of his life, Becky. Throughout his life, he treasured time with family and friends, Later in life he met a special friend in, Sally and her family, he drew interest in collecting and trading sports cards and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
Jay was preceded in death by his wife, Becky; his parents, Dale and Beverly Cambern; and three siblings, Jon Cambern, Susan (Cambern) Avery, and Debra (Cambern) Youngberg.
He is survived by his sons, Jason (Kari) of Rochester, MN, and Travis (Trish) of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Brittany of Eagan, MN, Bryce of West Palm Beach, FL, Jack of Mankato, MN, and Jacob (Alexa) of San Antonio, TX; his sister, Diane (Eddie) Ranger; and his brothers, Joel and Brian (Terri).
