Jean C. Hartfield

Jean C. Hartfield, age 77, of Hudson, passed away on the evening of November 9, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her family.  This follows a short but courageous struggle with lung cancer.  Jean was born on March 15, 1936 to Peter and Esther (Reinhardt) Loer in Red Wing, Minnesota.  She grew up and graduated high school in Red WIng with her two brothers, Richard and Thomas.  On August 25, 1956, Jean was united in marriage to William Hartfield.  The marriage was blessed with six children; Julie, Jeff, Susan, Barbara, Paul and Amy.  Jean and Bill lived in Minnesota, Wisconsin,  and Iowa before finally retiring and settling on a lake near Centuria, WI.  Eventually they made their final move to Hudson, WI to be closer to family.

Jean took great pleasure in quilting, reading, and spending time with her family – mainly with her grandchildren.  She was an avid Twins and Vikings fan and enjoyed “watching her flowers grow”.  For the last couple of years, if you couldn’t find her at home, she was off to the Casino with friends and family.  With Bill, Jean made her weekly trip to the Heritage Greens community center and to Ellsworth to play euchre.  This continued even after Bill’s passing.

Jean is survived by; her children, Julie (Delbert) Dodge of River Falls, Jeffrey (Toni) Hartfield of Red Wing, MN, Susan (Randy) Lucas of Nora Springs, IA, Barbara Anderson of River Falls, WI, Paul (Renee) Hartfield of River Falls, WI and Amy (Scott) Peters of Forest Lake, MN; 22 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Annette) Loer of Cottage Grove, MN and Thomas (Pat) Loer of Centuria, WI and many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents and husband of 57 years, Bill.

A celebration of Jean’s life will be held from 4 to 8 PM on Friday, November 15 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – Hudson Chapel.  A memorial service will take place at 5pm with a reception to follow.  Services are in the care of the O’Connell Family Funeral Home – Hudson chapel.  715.386.3725
