Jill Kay (Hansen) Burton, 71, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and devoted nurse, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2026 surrounded by her family, in Palm Springs, California.
Jill is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Marvin Lowell Burton; her children, Jenell (Bryan) Neidermyer, Marvin Craig (Cristi) Burton, Kelly Burton, and Mark (Joy) Burton; and her twelve grandchildren: Selena Neidermyer, Trina Neidermyer, Emma (Elijah) Strong, Alyssa (Ethan) Neitzell, Alyvia Burton, Aubrey Burton, Marvin Aleczander Burton, Autumn Burton, Zechariah Burton, Gabriel Burton, Malachi Burton, and Judah Burton. She is also survived by her cherished great-granddaughter, McKenzie Neitzell; her brother Dean (Glenda) Hansen, her other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Lucille Hansen; her in-laws, Marvin G. and Dorothy Burton; and her sister, Pamela Hansen.
Jill was born on November 12, 1954, in New Richmond, Wisconsin, to Harry and Lucille Hansen (McKenzie). She grew up in Roberts, Wisconsin, and graduated from St. Croix Central High School. In 1972, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Marvin Lowell Burton, and together they immediately began building a loving family and life together.
Jill dedicated many years as a stay-at-home mother, faithfully supporting Marvin in all of their family and business endeavors. Though she always dreamed of becoming a nurse, she lovingly set that dream aside while raising her children and helping build the family business. Her home was always open to children, friends, and anyone in need of a place to stay. Caring for others was truly her lifelong calling.
After raising her children and receiving a kidney transplant from her husband in 2000, Jill decided to pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse. Following graduation from nursing school, she began her nursing career at Christian Community Home in Hudson, Wisconsin, where she faithfully served until retirement. Known for her compassion, steady hands, selflessness, and reliability, Jill deeply cared for her patients and mentored countless new nurses throughout her career.
In retirement, Marvin and Jill divided their time between homes in Southern California and Wisconsin to remain close to their children and grandchildren. She loved traveling throughout the United States and Canada in their motorhome and enjoyed seeing the world with her family on cruise ships.
At home, Jill was “Mom” and “Grandma” in the truest sense. She was famous for her chicken salad, Dean’s Hotdish, scalloped potatoes and ham, and homemade bread. She loved to sew. She could always be counted on to make or alter any outfit no matter how complicated. Her talents were shown on many wedding, bridesmaid, and pageant dresses. She joyfully hosted holidays and family gatherings, always making everyone feel welcome. She loved shopping, collecting purses, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and went to every sporting event and activity of her children and grandchildren.
Jill loved Jesus and dedicated her life to His service. She raised her family to do the same. She volunteered her time at Summer Bible Camp as a nurse and served regularly in her church family. Jill opened her home for church functions and was always willing to provide meals to those who had a need.
A celebration of her life will be held in California on June 2nd at 5pm at Lighthouse Church in Yucca Valley. There will also be a celebration of her life in Wisconsin on June 10th with visitation at 10am and service to begin at 11am at Calvary Assembly of God in Wilson. Interment will be at Tiffany Cemetery in Boyceville.
Her family will remember her for her love, compassion, and selfless acts. She taught us that with Jesus as the center of your life you can change the world. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched.
