John Albert Rieger

John Albert Rieger, age 75, of New Richmond, Wisconsin passed away on Tuesday, February 4th, 2020 at his residence in New Richmond. John was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on March 22nd, 1944 to John and Rose Rieger (nee Helminiak). John grew up in St. Paul and attended St. Bernard’s elementary school and graduated from Washburn high school. After completing trade school, John worked as a machinist. On June 19th, 1973, John married the love of his life, Nancy Kay Rieger (nee Eastwood) in Couer d’Alene, Idaho.

John found happiness in the company of his family. John made sure that every member of his family felt loved, and cherished the time spent with them. John’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren were John’s world. John loved to hunt, and found solitude in the hunting trips he would take. John was a loyal Green Bay Packers fan.

John will be remembered in the hearts of his wife, Nancy Rieger; children, Ron Widmyer, Pat Rieger, Tim (Tracy) Rieger, Tom Widmyer, Kelly (Gary) Frank, Christine Rieger, Jamie (Scott) Rasmussen; grandchildren, Derek and Ryan Widmyer, Charlie and Sam Rieger, Tori Widmyer, Tiffany (Francisco) Cobos, Michael (Corey) Frank, Lindsay (Mac) Hamlin, Megan (Mitchell) Cowley and Scott (Bailey Bergum) Rasmussen; great-grandchildren, Alianna Cobos, James Frank, Walter Hamlin, Twin Girls Cobos and Baby Cowley; siblings, Rosemary (Bob) Emmerich and Bob (Terry) Rieger; and many family and close friends.

There will be a time to honor John on Friday, February 14th, 2020, with an informal gathering taking place from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, with a time to share stories of John beginning at 2:00pm at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home in Hudson, Wisconsin. There will be an informal gathering at the Willow River Inn in Hudson, Wisconsin following John’s Gathering.

Casual attire is preferred by the family at John’s gathering.

Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family
