Joy Ann Nelson

Joy Ann Nelson, 63, of Hudson, WI, formerly of St. Paul, MN, died unexpectedly on October 16, 2022, at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN, following a short illness.

Joy was born on June 3, 1959, to James and Rose (DeFlorin) Berrisford in St. Paul, MN. She attended school in St. Paul, MN, and graduated from Johnson Senior High class of 1978. Growing up with six other siblings, Joy was usually the quiet one. She mostly kept to herself, soaking up everything around her. While attending Junior High School, she met Stephen Nelson. The two would date throughout school and go their separate ways after graduation. 30 years later, the couple would bump into each other at Fleet Farm in Oakdale. They would start right where they left off while in High School. They would be united in marriage on June 13, 2015, at Saint Patrick’s Church in Hudson, WI. Joy worked odd jobs here and there but would mostly be a homemaker.

While at home, she adored her cats, was entertained by doing wordfind on her phone and watched her daily Soap shows. On nearly every Wednesday, she would spend time with her best friend, Karen, and the two would have coffee and then do their weekly shopping. Joy loved her family and those she knew; she was a very considerate and good listener. Joy will be deeply missed by all who loved her.

Joy is survived by her husband, Stephen Nelson; children, Justin Berrisford, Richard (Kristin) Nelson, and Michael Nelson; grandchildren, Joey and Lydia; her mother, Rose Berrisford; Siblings, Durk, Steve, Maurice, and Craig; along with several other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, James Berrisford, and siblings, Keith and Melody.

A Mass for Joy Nelson will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 26, 2022, at St. Patrick’s Church, 1500 Vine St, Hudson, WI, 54016, with a visitation 1 hour prior to Mass at the Church. The service will be live-streamed on the Church’s Facebook page.

Memorials are preferred to the family.
