Katherine M. Hallquist

Katherine Mae Hallquist, age 99 of Hudson, formerly of Afton, MN died Friday October 9th at the Christian Community Home in Hudson.

Katherine was born on February 21, 1916 in Afton, MN to Albert and Esther (Swanson) Peterson. She attended Swede Hill Elementary in South Afton and graduated from the Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul. Katherine was united in marriage to Fred Hallquist on July 16, 1937 in Fairbault, MN. Their marriage would be blessed with three children: Floyd, Julie, and Jeff. She worked as an insurance underwriter for St. Paul Fire and Marine, retiring in 1981.

Katherine loved spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and canning every fall. Katherine was a member of the Memorial Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir and helped with the church ladies guild and the youth groups.

She is survived by her children, Floyd (Barbara) Hallquist, Julie (Bruce) Petersen, and Jeff (Peggy) Hallquist; grandchildren, Kimberly Zwieg, Jeff Hallquist, Stephanie (Aaron) Swearingen, Sonja (Andrew) MacDonald, Nathan Petersen; 9 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She is preceded in death by her husband, Fred; her parents; and siblings, Marjorie, Marion, and Floyd.

A Memorial Service for Katherine will held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Memorial Lutheran Church of Afton, 15730 Afton Blvd. South, Afton, MN, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery in Afton.
