Kathleen “Kay” Claire Harris

Kathleen “Kay” Claire Harris (Oys), age 87, of Prescott died peacefully at home on 2-14-2016.

Kay was born on April 16, 1928 in Hastings to John and Elizabeth Oys. Kay married Byron (Bub) Harris on April 25th, 1951 and they enjoyed a 48 year marriage before his death. Together Kay and Byron had five children, Greg (Colleen) Harris, Elise (Steve) Block, Kathy (Dave) Harwood, Gretchen (Chuck) Nordquist and Bob (Jane) Harris. Other family members include 19 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Kay is survived by her sisters, Rita Olson of Hastings and June Holbrook of Vermont and many nieces and nephews.

Kay graduated from St. Cloud University and started her long 50+ year teaching career. Kay taught in S. St. Paul, St. Guardian Angels School in Hastings, Prescott Middle School and substitute taught until she was 82. Kay was proud of her students and relished teaching, coaching and supervising middle school activities. Kay was involved in the Prescott Community Education program starting a popular book club and proudly served on the Board. She was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the high school LAFF group. Some activities that Kay enjoyed included swimming, gardening, Grandma’s camp, community volunteering, and being with her family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 am Saturday, 2/20/16 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Prescott, WI. Visitation will be 4:00-6:00 pm on Friday, 2/19/16, at St. Joseph Catholic School Gymnasium and 1 hour prior to Mass at the church on Saturday. Memorials preferred to St. Joseph’s School.
