Kathleen Mae Lindahl ‘Kathy’, age 80, of Lake St Croix Beach, MN passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family. Kathy was born to Lucile (Larson) and Charles Schmitz at Mounds Park Hospital, in St. Paul, MN on May 14th, 1944.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband and best friend, Gary Richard Lindahl, and her parents, Charles and Lucile.
Survived by loving children Shelly (Dennis) Doerr, Gary C. (Betty) Lindahl and Rebecca (Bob) Wolfe; grandchildren Erik (Laura) Doerr, Hailey (Mike Marrone) Doerr, Allyce (Jesse) Piele, Lauren Lindahl, Bobby (Sheena) Wolfe and Samantha (Dustin) Ardolf; great grandchildren Calvin, Logan, Ray, Willow, Wyatt, Sydney, Ava, Rylee and Nash; siblings Judy Jepsen, Jackie Connolly, Nancy (Roger) Johnson, Butch (Jeep) Schmitz, Sally (Michael) Granlund and Suzie Schmitz. She is also survived by a caring circle of extended family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all.
Kathy’s early years were spent at the family home on Upper Afton Road; a seven-bedroom farmhouse built by her grandfather, and her grandparents farms in Hastings and Pig’s Eye Island where her cousin Linda and her siblings had many adventures. Math and art were her favorite subjects in school. Graduating from Harding in 1962, she was voted most athletic.
Kathy met Gary, the love of her life, on a blind date, married in 1963 and raised their three children in Lake St. Croix Beach, MN. Upon retirement from Andersen Window Corp in 2001, they moved to their cabin in Ladysmith WI, where they spent 15 wonderful years together going to garage sales, flee markets and festivals, gardening, making improvements on their home, traveling with family, meeting new friends, taking boat rides and enjoying happy hours in the beautiful gazebo Kathy designed and Gary built for her.
After Gary’s death in 2016, Kathy remained at the home she designed and they built together for five more years; reluctant to give up all that they had created. It’s about this time she joined the Sheldon Church of Christ after being invited to join members on a trip to the Holy Land, where she made friendships cherished the rest of her life. In 2021, she moved back to Lake St Croix Beach to be closer to her children where she again put her artistic talents to work, turning her home into a beautiful place where family and friends could come, relax and socialize.
Kathy had many talents and excelled at all of them. She won awards for her art work, she was a leader at Andersen Corp when few women held such positions, she volunteered and worked for FamilyMeans where she won their Grace B. Stoltze Award for outstanding volunteer commitment, she was a Master Gardener, she volunteered and performed stints as board chair at both FamilyMeans and Power House Youth Center in Ladysmith and as president, secretary and treasurer for Shoreview Properties and the Ladysmith Area Garden Club. And, of course, there was her infamous homemade wine, loved by many. Her presence in our lives is painfully missed.
Memorial service will be held at 12:00 P.M., Monday, May 19, 2025 at O’Connell Family Funeral Homes, 520 S 11th Street, Hudson, WI (715-386-3725) with visitation starting at 11.
