Kathy Kusilek

d. July 26, 2019

Kathy Kusilek, age 75 of Hudson, formerly of Spring Valley died Friday July 26, 2019 at her residence following a battle with lung cancer. Kathy was born on October 18, 1943 in Minneapolis, Minnesota; the daughter of William and Florence (Harwell) Riley. She was raised in Hudson graduating from Hudson High School prior to attending a beauty school in the Twin Cities. On June 22, 1963, she was united in marriage to John “Jack” Kusilek Sr. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson. They embarked on 55 years of fun and excitement and created some adventurous memories. If you knew Kathy, you couldn’t help smile at her zest and being a sparkplug to anyone around. She truly was up for anything, especially if it was exciting. She never grew out of this free spirit as she had to keep it up for her grandchildren; who loved her so much. Kathy used her enthusiasm and taste as a decorator and designer for Flower City in the Twin Cities. She loved thinking outside the box and fashioning beautiful floral designs. Moreover, She loved animals, all walks of life, but dogs held a special place in her heart. But just like her husband Jack, she cherished her family. The more around the merrier. They loved entertaining family or watching their grandkids at horse shows, sporting and school events. They were so very proud of them. As their kids were being raised, their trips and travels would challenge those of Chevy Chase as stories and fun would become forever memories. She will be sorely missed by her family.

Kathy will long live on in the hearts of her children, John W., JR. (Linda), Jodie (Jeff) Robey, Joe (Julie), and Don (Laura); grandchildren, Miranda, Jacy,  Tanner, Hayden, and Vivian; great-grandchildren, Carter, Mason, Talon; and her sister Sharon Burton. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Florence (Harwell) Riley, husband Jack, and brother-in-law Mel Burton.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2PM, Wednesday July 31stat St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hudson. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from noon to 2pm prior to the mass at church on Wednesday. Memorials will be used at the discretion of the family. Funeral services entrusted to the O’Connell Family Funeral Homes.
