Kenneth Lloyd Smith, better known as "Papa" to those around him, passed away peacefully at home on May 2, 2025, surrounded by loved ones, after being diagnosed with cancer only a few weeks prior.
Kenny was born in 1958 in Ely, Nevada, to Charlie and Ruby (Lloyd) Smith. He was raised in Nevada, where he graduated from high school in 1976, and then enlisted in the Armed Forces. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for four years. After his service, he worked in landscaping between Nevada and California, where he spent most of his early life.
In 1991, he moved to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and became a father to two daughters, Kendra and Samantha. After experiencing some heart issues, Kenny made a career change and found a new passion in cooking. He helped open a Denny’s Restaurant in Menomonie and also worked at the Highway 128 restaurant in Wilson.
He enjoyed a sunny day basking in the sun while chasing that little white dimpled ball called golf. He loved the scenery at courses such as Ellsworth and Pine Wood. He also enjoyed Golden State Basketball watching Stephen Curry as well as dedicating his Sundays to watch his beloved Dallas Cowboys; especially when Troy Aikman was lined up behind center. Kenny’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Whether taking walks with them or playing video games, he cherished their energy, laughter, and innocence. Although it was hard to tell who liked playing video games more; Kenny or his grandkids. He also loved to watch their enthusiasm while they went to the trout pond in Plum City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Barbara, Audrey, Willard, and Charles. He is survived by his daughters, Kendra (Jordan) Jones and Samantha (Ted) Ludeman Toreman; grandchildren, Ashtin, Aliyah, Justelle, Addison, Aidyn, Araya, and Craig; step-son in heart, Jason (Victoria) Strong and family; along with many nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.
