Larry L. Volmer, 81, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2026, in Prescott, Wisconsin. Born on May 20, 1944, in Pierre, South Dakota, Larry lived a life of compassion, service, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Throughout his career, Larry pursued many ventures, but he was most notably recognized for his leadership as President and CEO of Watkins Inc. His tenure there reflected sharp business acumen and dedication to excellence.
Larry’s love for sports began early in life while growing up in Draper, South Dakota. In high school, he was a standout athlete in both basketball and baseball—a small-town sports star whose talent left a lasting impression. That passion never waned, and he remained an avid fan of football, baseball, and basketball throughout his life. He especially enjoyed supporting local high school teams and took great pride in the community spirit they inspired.
Faith played a meaningful role in Larry’s life. Raised Catholic, he embraced a deeply personal spirituality. He often said that going to church doesn’t make you spiritual—it’s the relationship you have with God that truly matters. This belief guided him through life’s joys and sorrows and shaped the way he supported others through their own grief.
Larry had a special gift for comforting those who were mourning the loss of loved ones. His kindness and empathy were evident to all who knew him. He carried with him the memory of his beloved son, Brian Volmer, who passed away 37 years ago—a loss that deeply affected him but also deepened his spiritual connection.
Family was at the heart of everything Larry did. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Shirley Volmer (Schlotfeldt), his daughter, Laura Volmer Westman and her husband, Justin; his granddaughter, Alyssa Eich (Volmer-Johnson) and her husband, Alex; his grandson, Sawyer Westman; and his great-grandchildren, Tessa and William Eich.
He is also survived by his siblings, Gary Volmer, Neil Volmer, Lee Volmer, and Gayle Byrd (Volmer). He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Volmer; his parents, Louis and Kathryn Volmer (Groff) and his brother, Lowell Volmer.
Larry will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and unwavering support for those around him. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched, with love that endures across generations.
A special thank you to the staff at Prescott Nursing and Rehab. The genuine care and love given to Larry did not go unnoticed.
