Lauraine Eakins, age 96, of Spring Valley died Wednesday, Jan 18 at the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center. A memorial funeral service will be held on Sunday, Jan 22, 2012 at the Congregational Church in Spring Valley. Visitation will be at church from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

Lauraine Eakins, age 96 of Spring Valley, Wisconsin died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Spring Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Lauraine was born January 16, 1916, the daughter of Gustave and Nettie (Peterson) Isaacson at Spring Valley. She attended Spring Valley Schools and River Falls Teachers College and graduated in 1938 with a teaching degree in English and history. Her first teaching job was in Spring Valley. On May 17, 1940 Lauraine married Christian Wulf. They had two children, Terrence and Carol. Christian died at an early age in 1945 and Lauraine was left to raise her two children. She taught school at Elmwood for 6 years and then returned to Spring Valley. On August 14, 1949 Lauraine married Rex Eakins.

Lauraine taught and worked in the library at Spring Valley. She was a mentor to many new teachers at Spring Valley. She was a member of the Congregational Church and Eastern Star. Lauraine loved to bowl, golf, read and travel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Christian and Rex; and both of her children; Terrence and Carol.

Survivors include 2 grandchildren: Valerie (Tom) Schmidt of Hudson, WI; Justin (Sally) Wulf of Minnetrista, MN; 3 great-grandchildren: Annika and Ingrid Wulf and Andrew Schmidt; daughter-in-law Marsha Natvig of Mankato; son-in-law John Mattison of Hudson; other relatives and friends.

A memorial funeral service was held on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 3 p.m. at Congregational Church in Spring Valley with Rev. Jeff Holton officiating. Visitation was from 2-3 p.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial was in Spring Lake Public Cemetery, rural Spring Valley.
