Leroy Johannsen

LeRoy H. Johannsen, age 80, of Pensacola, FL, formerly of Hudson, WI, passed away on October 27, 2014.

LeRoy was born on November 29, 1933 in Hudson, WI to LeRoy and Dorothy (Kohl) Johannsen. He grew up in Hudson, and was a graduate of Hudson High School, the Class of 1951.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Josephson on December 27, 1954 in the Marine on the St. Croix, MN. Their marriage would be blessed with 3 children: LeRoy Jr., Linda, and Lowell.

In 1951, LeRoy enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. After obtaining many medals and commendations, he retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1970. He very much enjoyed traveling overseas with the military, and after his retirement, took great pride in his lifelong membership to the VFW, American Legion, Elks and Amvets. He cherished the many friendships he made with those organizations. He also had a special interest in trains and loved traveling by train.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine; children: LeRoy (Mary) Johannsen Jr., Linda (Glen) Seierstad, and Lowell Johannsen; grandchildren: Mallorie & Jordan Johannsen, Jennifer (Jesse) Campos, and Jared Johannsen; great-grandson, Carson Campos; and brothers, Alfred and Melvin Johannsen.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy; and sister-in-law, Jeanne Johannsen.

A memorial service for LeRoy will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 S. 11th St., Hudson with a gathering one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Willow River Cemetery immediately following the service.
