LeRoy L. Peterson, age 89 of Maplewood, MN, formerly of Hudson, died on Friday, April 5, 2019, at the Ecumen Seasons of Maplewood.

LeRoy was born on May 3, 1929 in Clark, South Dakota; to Raymond and Inez (Holm) Peterson. He was raised in Minneapolis and attended Phillips Junior High. LeRoy served in the United States Army during World War II. He would be united in marriage to Marion Breyen in July of 1955 to which children Lynn, Kathleen, Laurie, Steven, David, Raymond, and Gary were born. Their marriage later ended after which, sadly, Marion and their son, David, would precede him in death. LeRoy worked as a mechanic for Clarklift in Bloomington, MN for 25 years. He also worked for 10 years as a bus driver for Twin City Lines. On July 9, 1989, LeRoy was united in marriage to Lillian Davis and the couple made their home in Hudson, before moving to Roseville, MN. He and Lillian had great memories wintering down south at the Paradise RV Park in Arizona. In 2016, after 27 years of marriage, Lillian also preceded LeRoy in death. LeRoy was a skilled woodworker, and was fond of making coffee tables, cedar chests and other pieces of furniture for family and friends. He enjoyed playing golf, and worked as a ranger for the Clifton Hollow Golf Club for 15 years.

LeRoy will remain forever in the hearts of his children, Lynn Grace, Steven (Kerry Carlson) Peterson, Ray (Tamie) Peterson, Kathleen Thompson, Gary Peterson, and Laurie Peterson; daughter-in-law, Patricia Peterson; grandchildren, Brandon and Bridget Rodriguez; Noel “OP” (Rachel), Kyle, and Cecelia Thompson; Brett (Dannah) Thompson; Clayton DeWald; Anthony Peterson-Parks; great-grandchildren, Kayla and Mia Rodriguez; Kya Nolan; Lucca, Mark and Elliott Thompson; Owen DeWald; step-children, Kathleen Ulrich, Martin (Faye) Davis, Therese Davis, and Philip (Vicki) Davis; step-grandchildren, Douglas (Jen) Ulrich, Martin (Jes) Davis, Matt (Heather) Davis, René Ulrich, Ann Ulrich and Daniel (Tina) Brill; Brittney (Drew) Davis, and Blake Davis; step-great-grandchildren Kayli, Allie, & Katie Ulrich; Marty and Grace Davis; Ethan King; Matthew and Evelyn Davis; Callie Brill; step-great-great-grandson, Hudson Ulrich; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marion Breyen; second wife, Lillian Davis Peterson; his son, David; his parents; and siblings, Carol Neuman, Eugene Peterson, and Robert Peterson.

A Funeral Service for LeRoy will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10th at the O’Connell Family Funeral Home; 520 S. 11th St., Hudson, WI. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

LeRoy’s family would like to extend special thanks to Ecumen Seasons of Maplewood staff with special mention for the wonderful Celina Hernandez; Health Partners Hospice staff with special recognition of Heather Shell who became LeRoy’s confidant, both personally and professionally and who played a vital, compassionate role in maintaining his physical, mental and emotional health; and Chaplain Susan Schoon, who befriended him and facilitated LeRoy’s transition from a personal, spiritual relationship with God to acceptance of organized fellowship and religion in his final years.
