Margaret Hulda Orf, 99, of Somerset, WI, passed away peacefully Saturday evening, February 22, 2020 at home with her loving family by her side. Margaret was born March 2, 1920 to Paul A. and Hulda (Giese) Kludtke at their home in Somerset Township. Margaret will be buried just two days short of her one hundredth birthday. After graduating from Somerset High School in 1938, Margaret held jobs at a shoe factory in Stillwater and at Western Electric in St. Paul during World War II before meeting a handsome farmer named Clarence Edward Orf. Margaret and Clarence were married on September 24, 1949 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. She loved her blessed and simple life, loved being a mother and being a dairy farmer’s wife. She enjoyed gardening and was exceptionally proud of her flowers inside and outside of her home. Margaret was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Burkhardt, WI where she was involved in the Sunday school program for many years. She was also a member of the ELCA, (formerly ALCW) women’s group at Redeemer and was treasurer of the group for forty years. The group participated in many church activities like quilting and she had loads of fun working in the “old” kitchen with her church friends. Margaret also was a long-time member the Four Corners Homemaker’s group. She was an active member of the Kitchen Band, a community group, with members from area churches, and she just loved seeing the smiling faces at their performances. Margaret’s faith was deep, and when she was told by her doctors that she might not live through a procedure, she said, “Well, I’m a winner either way.”
Margaret will remain in the hearts of her beloved son, Gene and his wife, Denise of Somerset. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Talyn, of Somerset, Kevin (Tarra) Orf of Morris, IL, Leigh (Anne) Orf of Madison, and Elizabeth (Mike) Dennis of Maine. Surviving also are her five great-grandsons, Mason, Maxwell, Liam, Atticus and Bram; numerous nieces and nephews, several cousins, extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband; one grandson, William; one niece, Edith Kludtke Saarstad; and her six siblings.
Visitations for Margaret will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, February 28, at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1097 Scott Rd. Burkhardt, and at 10 o’clock on Saturday, February 29, preceding the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served at the church immediately following the service. Interment will then take place at Willow River Cemetery, 609 9th St. Hudson, WI. Services entrusted to O’Connell Family Funeral Home, 520 11th St. S, Hudson, WI, (715) 386-3725.
